Kortex/Questions

The questions that arrive by email.

Answered here so they stop arriving by email, and so the next person can find them the way they actually search.

Getting a price

How do I get a price?

Send drawings, a photo and a few measurements, or a description in your own words through the quote form, or call. We reply within one business day with a price or with the questions we need answered to give you one.

Is the site visit free?

Yes, anywhere inside the GTA. Anything structural, or anything we cannot price honestly from a photograph, gets measured before we quote.

Is the price a lump sum?

No. Materials, fabrication, finish, delivery and installation are shown as separate lines, with a lead time and a list of what we need from you.

Do you do small jobs?

Yes. A single beam, one railing or a gate repair is normal work for us, and often the start of a longer relationship.

Drawings and engineering

Can you work from my architect's or designer's drawing?

Yes, and it is the easiest way to start. We price from the set, then produce shop drawings and connection details that go back to your designer and engineer for approval before fabrication.

Do I need an engineer?

For structural steel in Ontario, yes. We work with your engineer or bring in the one we work with regularly. Most residential stairs and railings are detailed to the Building Code without one.

What files do you need?

PDF is enough to start. DWG lets us work faster. For small jobs a photo and a few measurements are fine.

Timelines

How long does a stair take?

Three to six weeks from site measure to installation for most residential stairs, including finish. Spiral and helical stairs run longer.

How soon can a beam be delivered?

Stock sizes cut, drilled and primed can usually be delivered within the week. Full structural packages run two to five weeks from approved drawings.

Can you work around my other trades?

Yes. Shop fabrication happens off site, and installation is scheduled to the day your site is ready, with the crane or telehandler arranged by us.

On site and repairs

Can you repair something on site today?

Often, yes. Call with a photo and a location. Our mobile welding truck carries its own power and gas, and we will tell you honestly whether it is a same-day fix or a shop job.

Are you insured?

Yes. We are fully insured, and WSIB clearance is available before we mobilize.

Do you weld stainless and aluminum?

Yes, in the shop and in the field, with TIG and MIG. Stainless 304 and 316, aluminum 6061 and 5052 are routine.

Where do you work?
